Locomotives
Trains are a form of transportation in Factorio, used for transporting rolling stock long distances. It is also the fastest method of travel. Trains can only be built on rails and use train stops to automate deliveries, each train stop gets a randomly selected name, to see all train stop names see Train stop name list. Trains can also be driven manually. Carriages can be attached behind locomotives. Related technologies are:
Railway - Automated Rail Transportaion - Rail Signals - Braking Force (1-7) - Fluid Wagon
You can also attach artillery wagons, which are useful for keeping the area surrounding your railway clear of infestations. rail signals and rail chain signals are used to allow multiple trains to run on the same line. (Credit for this page: BurgerFanMan)
Recipes
Locomotive:
10 Green Circuits + 20 Engines + 30 Steel = 1 Locomotive
Cargo Wagons:
10 Iron Gears + 20 Iron Plates + 20 Steel = 1 Cargo Wagon
Fluid Wagons:
10 Iron Gears + 8 Pipes + 16 Steel + 1 Storage Tank = 1 Fluid Wagon
Loading And Unloading
Cargo Wagons are loaded and unloaded using inserters, and can ONLY be (un)loaded when the train is at a complete stop. All inserters work on Cargo Wagons and at the same speeds as normal. They prioritise items at the bottom right first.
Fluid Wagons are loaded and unloaded using pumps (not to be confused with offshore pumps).
Trivia
- Locomotives can destroy any enemy when driving at max speed. If the train is too slow, it will stop on the biter and only damage and anger it. The biters will proceed to attack the train and rails.
- Biters ignore rails unless angered by trains.
- Hovering over a train produces an information panel which includes how many biters the train has killed.
